Paperback Theatre is a West Midlands based company making work about what we watch and how it makes us behave. We’re interested in the stories we tell now, those we chose to remember and why we keep telling them again and again. We are a playful and collaborative company dedicated to creating the most entertaining and provocative work we can.

Paperback Theatre was formed by University of Warwick graduates in 2016. Our second show, We Need to Talk About Bobby (off EastEnders) was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2016 and has since toured to the King’s Head Theatre, London; The Old Joint Stock Theatre, Birmingham and The Space Arts Centre.

As a company passionate about developing work and playing with ideas we have also performed a number of scratches and in development pieces at the Wolverhampton Arena, The Shoebox Theatre in Swindon and back at the Old Joint Stock.

Me and My Doll is our latest show. After a successful run at the Old Joint Stock in February 2019, the show was picked up by the theatre for a co-production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

In the summer of 2020, Paperback produced Little but LIVE! in Moseley Park as a response to the Covid-19 crisis. A small outdoor festival with a socially distanced audience, Little but LIVE! was an experiment in how we can continue to find connection, even at a distance. As well as producing our own version of Romeo and Juliet, we were joined by a huge range of brilliant local acts from Dhol Drumming group Eternal Taal, to The Reggaelators, to Box of Frogs Improv.

We are in the process of rescheduling a 2020 tour of Me and My Doll, cancelled due the outbreak of Covid-19, keep your eyes peeled for new dates coming in 2021.

If you are a regional fringe venue interested in booking this show, please find out tour pack here - or contact us for more information.

“A fresh, young company, with wit, imagination and unshakeable confidence. Their shows are hilarious and touching in equal measure.”
